Film Review: Changes Made

Image
I made some adjustments, mostly to the lighting, after receiving input from my peers. Although many people enjoyed the spooky atmosphere, some said that some scenes were too dark to make out crucial details. I wanted to ensure that everything remained visible while maintaining the dystopian atmosphere. I fixed this by adjusting my camera's brightness so that the shadows wouldn't be too strong. In a few shots where it was difficult to see the character's face, I also slightly increased the exposure. Particularly the part in the dark room where the protagonist must wake up. After seeing the revised version, one of my classmates commented that the change significantly improved the tone without detracting from it. My mother said she liked the lighting and saw that I had adjusted it, but the suspense remained the same. Another friend claimed that the world felt more realistic because they could now see the little details in the background. Additionally, the shots I used appeare...

Production Blog: final task film review

Image
I was really excited to hear what my peers thought of my dystopian final task after I finished filming and editing it. I showed my family and my classmates. Their responses were observant. According to one of my friends, the opening's music and character acting caught their attention right away. They enjoyed how the shots increased their interest and created tension. That's precisely what I wanted. Someone else said that the cup scene was a perfect example of the dystopian genre. My family noted that I was able to establish a deep, emotional bond with the main character by utilizing both wide shots and close-ups. They also appreciated my editing of the transitions and my use of jump cuts. Particularly in the moments before the actual events in the house take place. According to one classmate, they were initially perplexed since they were unfamiliar with the term dystopian. After I gave her an explanation, she understood and became more eager to watch it again. They enjoyed how...

Production Blog: Music Production

Image
When it comes to creating the right tone or mood in movies, music is crucial. It was challenging to locate the appropriate music for our group's last assignment. We all decided that we wanted something that would work well with the scenes I shot and evoke the appropriate feelings. We experimented with a variety of genres, including horror music and classical instruments. One of the other members initially assisted me in identifying our first option. A classical song from Apple Music was our first selection. After that, I discovered that selecting a royalty-free song was much simpler than using a copyrighted song. Later, since piano seemed to work better for our movie, I was looking for songs with a thriller theme that was just piano. I visited every platform that distributes music. YouTube, SoundCloud, Spotify, Apple Music, and iTunes. Other than SoundCloud and YouTube, I was unable to locate any non-copyright music. I looked through SoundCloud but was unable to find anything that...

Directing

Image
Before my group and I even started filming or preparing props, I made sure everything was in place. For example, I made sure everyone knew their lines and was ok with them and if they had any ideas that they would like to put in place. Which they did. Hlaey made the suggestion that they should add some words into their lines to make their part in the scene more natural which worked out wonderfully. I went over her idea approved it and moved on to inform the group about the improvement. Aside from changing the script, I sat everyone down and read the entire plot line with them to make sure they also approved it. We thought all the scenes out and we all liked the plot itself so we didn't change much. The only thing we changed for the film was when the cup had the water in it and when it did not. After I confirmed with my group that everything was set in place, that is when we started filming.  480 × 253

Filming

Image
I started getting ready for the film's final scene after we finished filming scene three. It was intended that this scene would begin in the same room as the previous one. We weren't sure if we should start filming the group of friends getting ready for bed or just cut to the friends already dozing off. I made the decision that we should start the scene with everyone in bed. I came up with this idea because getting everyone ready for bed would take a lot of time and be a lengthy process. Because there wouldn't be a true plot in that process, I also believed that viewers would find it awkward to watch. Before filming, there was a mistake just before we began filming, the camera died. We waited until it reached a full percent after I went to plug it in. We began setting up the scene while the camera was charging. I repositioned the pillows in the bed and pushed back the comforters. To make the scenario realistic, I explained to everyone the sequence we should lay down. We wan...

Editing Scenes

Image
For the scene where I walk down the stairs to grab snacks, I wanted the viewer to be able to hear the girls upstairs talking. Unfortunately, the camera didn't fully capture their voices so I edited them in. I enhanced the volume on only the background with an app and it worked. You could hear the girls upstairs as well as my footsteps on the stairs while walking down. Soundtrack editing provides realism and narration for me. It's all about harmoniously mixing ambient sound, leveling, and layering. I listen for good mixing to create a sophisticated, immersive film experience. When mixing background noise, I start by choosing the appropriate ambient sound and importing it into my editing software. I overlap tracks to create depth, normalize volume, add reverb, and eliminate unwanted noise to achieve a natural mix of sound. Finally, I sync the sound to the vision and complete it. 830 × 400 Search inside imag

Editing

Image
For this film, my group and I used my own camera. So, I had to transfer the videos to my phone and edit the movie. This was a lengthy process but I did a good job. I got all the clips, good and bad, and watched all of them. I got the best clips and left the bloopers and unnatural clips behind. Once I got all the clips and cut some of them for smoother transitions from each scene. I then made sure the lighting was perfect. In some of the clips I did have to edit the coloring to make it appear a little brighter but also still keep that weary effect by making it have a little shadow-like effect.  With that, I moved on to the sounds. For the scene where I am in bed in silence, I wanted to have a glass-breaking sound. So, what I did was when my group went to break the glass for the next scene I recorded the sound on my phone. I then layered that sound onto the film and it came out just as I imagined.

Filming next scene

Image
Now we continued on to the next scene. For scene 2 I was the only one on camera. As per the script, I was to walk down the stairs towards the kitchen to grab snacks for the others upstairs. To make it realistic like a real sleepover, while I was walking down the stairs I had Addyson and Haley in the room talking loudly enough to hear on the camera like they were still having fun and having a conversation. And the cup had no water when I turned around. This scene required a little more work. To make the glass not have any water or ice quickly, we had Robin behind the counter with an identical glass to the one I had, so when I turned around she would switch them out quickly and silently. I then had the camera pan and follow me as I looked around acting confused.

Start Of Filming

Image
Once all our preparations were complete, we started shooting the first scene. This scene occurred in the main character's bedroom. I arranged the room to resemble a sleepover with the characters. I set up cups on the side tables, gathered extra blankets, and added more pillows to the bed. With the room set, we were all set to begin. Someone outside our group was handling the filming for this scene. Along with a few others, I was cast as an actress in this scene. My role involved talking to the side characters and being the main character.. We had a pre-written script for this scene; however, we ultimately decided not to stick to it. We filmed one take following the script, but it felt very forced. After reviewing the take, it also appeared quite awkward. It didn’t match the vibe we aimed to create for the scene, so I thought of an idea. I suggested that we engage in any conversation we preferred for that part of the scene, which would make it feel more genuine since it was spontan...

Filmimg Preperation

Image
All of our group members gathered at the filming location as we began filming our movie. I drove there with the snacks I had packed because it was one of our group members' houses. We had to make sure that all of the film preparations were complete when everyone was present. The camera we were using was one of the most crucial items we needed to ensure was operational. When I arrived at the location, I placed the camera on the charger, and we allowed it to charge for three hours while we got other things ready. But the camera was still dead when we went to get it to record. Because the charger was not fully plugged in. Prior to filming, we had to leave it charging for a longer period of time. Two matching glasses and a broken glass played a major role in our plot. Our two glasses were identical, but one of them had a sticker on it that made it look strange. I carefully removed the sticker from the glass using a sharp instrument. We now had two pairs of matching glasses after the st...

StoryBoard Blog

storyboard 1: This storyboard starts off with Haley's House which is where the whole opening sequence will take place. Then as the camera gets closer to the house it will then show where all the girls are sitting together. Bianca then proceeds to go into the kitchen.   Storyboard 2: Bianca enters the kitchen and looks into the pantry to get snacks. She goes to fill up her glass with water but when she is about to pick the glass up it is already filled and she is scared and confused. Bianca then leaves the water and takes the snacks back up to the friends.  Storyboard 3: Bianca looks scared so Addyson asks her what is wrong and she brushes her question off. everyone else heads to bed. In the next scene, she hears a loud noise. She goes downstairs to where the noise took place and saw the glass shattered. The confusing part was there was no water that was spilt in the glass. So the movie opening sequence ends with Bianca questioning her surroundings and if she is saf...
