Short Film Research: The Phonograph
Common Camera, Angle, Movement, Shot: The film features close-up and extreme close-up shots, focusing on the expressions and looks of the actors, which is typical of the romance genre.
Common Sound: The film features a melodious piano tune played softly, which speeds up during the crucial scenes, affecting the emotions of the viewer.
Common Mise-en-Scene: The film features soft lighting, similar to the 'golden hour,' and a vintage setting, typical of the romance genre.
Common Editing: The film has a slow pace, allowing the tension between the lovers to develop.
Example films of my genre: Like Crazy, Before Sunrise.
What elements of the genre do you like? I like the emphasis on 'the unspoken,' the power of a look to say a thousand words without the need to speak.
What elements of the genre do not appeal to you? The 'love at first sight' scene is not very realistic unless the characters are developed.
