short film research: The Note
Common camera angles and movement: He makes heavy use of Medium Shots that help in capturing body language and hand gestures, which play an important role in silent film narrative.
Common Sound: There is no dialogue, so the impact of Diegetic Sounds, such as the scratching of the pen or the footsteps, is very strong.
Common Mise-en-Scene: He makes heavy use of props, namely the note, which forms the crux of the narrative. Also, the lighting used in the film is bright, which symbolizes hope.
Common Editing: Match Cuts have been used in the film that indicate the passing of time or the memory of the person.
Example films of my genre: The Artist, City Lights.
What elements of the genre do I like? I love the genre of silent romance. I think it makes the filmmaker use the power of visual narrative to the fullest.
What elements of the genre do not appeal to me? I don’t think I would like this genre if it gets too melodramatic and the actor starts overacting.
